Health Update - January 2008

January 6th was the 2 month mark after Nevaeh's lip/nose repair and G-tube surgery. The scar on her face is becoming a little more noticeable (as the surgeon said it would), and is pulling her lip up a bit. We're told that it will take 6 months to a year for the scar to mature, and to see what she will really look like.

We are getting tired of the G-tube! She has been pulling on it, which at times causes her to disconnect a feeding - making a mess everywhere, or this week it has actually been bleeding a bit. We have an occupational therapist coming out next week. She will help Nevaeh with oral stimulation, so that hopefully we can begin to reintroduce a pacifier, and eventually even food. But for now, we are awaiting her next "swallow study" to determine if she is still asperating (getting fluid in her airway). And until she passes that test, the G-tube will remain!

Her next surgery will be to repair her soft palate (roof of her mouth). That will be in about 4 months. We'll keep you posted!

In spite of it all, Nevaeh is such a joy! She is always smiling and talking these days. We are so happy to be able to kiss her cheeks, instead of kissing the tape she wore for her whole pre-surgery life. We are so thankful for our bright-eyed baby girl!

Thanks for putting a blog together. It is great to see pics of your family, well, and our whole family. I didn't successfully get that picture by email so this is the first time I've seen it. You have beautiful kids. -- Scott
